There're a number of ways teachers can encourage students for higher education. Here's a short list.
- Teach well, with passion.
- Whenever possible, give extra details to the concepts, but in short, and remark that they will learn all these in more detail when they pursue a higher degree.
- Discuss about various places for doing a higher degree, fellowships available, and the admission process.
- Encourage them for participating in summer schools like the MTTS programme, and short-term workshops/public talks that are being organized in neighboring colleges.
- Keep the department noticeboard updated with such news/posters.
- Arrange an invited talk at least once in a semester.
- Whenever you talk about the history of some mathematicians, always focus more on their student life, detailing where/how did they do higher education etc.
